Let me start off by saying that unfortunately, there were
only a handful of dresses that I liked at the Premios Juventud award show.
The 4 best dressed ladies of the night were Belinda, Blanca
Soto, Ana Brenda Contreras and Verónica Bastos. I liked each of their outfits, (shown
above), but I do have some pointers on how I think these beautiful women could
have looked even better on the blue carpet. Let’s take a look, shall we?
The Mexican actress and singer, Belinda, wore a very modern short
sequin dress with mesh sleeves and feather detailing. As much as this dress was
extremely busy, she pulled it off wonderfully. The dress was fun, young and appropriate
for the night. Her navy peep toe pumps and small black clutch were great
touches to her ensemble. I do wish she had worn studs earrings versus the long/large
stone earrings she had on. When you have all of that busy work going on, the
MAIN thing to remember ladies, is to keep everything else simple. LESS is MORE.
Her makeup was minimal and her ombre hair looked amazing. So really, the only
thing I had a problem with was her chunky earrings (again…with this particular
dress). They should have been a little more understated. Diamond studs perhaps?
Nonetheless, she was definitely one of the best dressed ladies of the night.
(So much so – she’s on this list twice!)
Towards the end of the show, Belinda changed into a long
printed maxi dress by Mexican Designer, Ximena Valero. She looked STUNNING in
this dress. It was flattering on all ends and I loved the earrings with this particular
dress. The maxi was super chic and the fact that it was also simple made the
large stone earrings a wonderful compliment to her outfit.
Then we have Blanca Soto. The Mexican model and actress wore
a fuchsia mini, volumized Rafael Cennamo dress with silver Jimmy Choo heels and
she looked amazing! Her hair was styled into a long Grecian like braid, by
hairstylist Leonardo Rocco. The shape of this dress was very “youthful” and yes
good for the night, the awards show is called ‘Premios Juventud’ after all, but
I wish the hemline would have been slightly longer for her. All in all, Blanca
Soto pulled it off well.
La Reina del Mar, Ana Brenda Contreras wore a sequined All
Saints mini. It was beautiful and the plunging back on the dress a very sexy
and daring detail. The problem is that the cut of the open back made her look
slightly boxy when looking at her from the front, giving the illusion that
she’s wider than she really is. Picking out a dress is all about your body type
and how the dress can ENHACE your features, not distort them. Her Louboutin’s
were a wonderful addition to her look, as they always are.
Lastly, we have Verónica Bastos’ Valentino jumpsuit. She paired it with an amazing pair
of glitter pumps and simple accessories. She looked chic and classy. Her outfit
was a definite hit.
Now, let’s proceed to the worst dressed of the night, and even
though I thought there were many, here are my top 5.
Let’s start with the show’s host, Alicia Machado. This wild
print mini dress was a tad bit too short and I’m not sure strapless was the
best way for her to go. On the other hand her shoes were great and her
voluminous hair was very beautiful. Hopefully next time she’ll opt for
something that better suits her body-type.
…moving on to Sherlyn. I don’t even know where to start! She
has an amazing figure, but apparently she thought she was headed to record a
Bollywood video (which I love by the way), but her outfit/costume was just not
right for the night. Not even a little bit – not at ALL . No room for
improvement here.
Next we have Kany García who I LOVE. I have her new single
‘Que te vaya mal’ on constant replay after I saw her perform it on PJ… you guys
should definitely give it a listen. Anyways, back to her dress... I just don’t
think it suits her well. Lace was one of the most popular trends of the night
and she missed the mark. The dress would have been better for her shape if the
belt was thicker and if she lost the fringe. Get em’ next time Kany!
The singer Jimena showed up to PJ with a see through dress
from designer Miguel Masjuán. This dress is appropriate for a beach: as a
cover-up. Not at an awards show with your undergarments showing! This was an
epic fail…not much else to say there.
Lastly we have the singer Norka…who showed up in a pink
cut-out dress with glitter heels. This dress was simply not well tailored and
so – ill fitting. She could have definitely used a belt! I’m sure the singer
could have looked better in something suitable for her sexy curves.
There you have it
ladies – to recap: make sure you buy a dress that’s suitable for your body
shape and one that plays up your best features. LESS is MORE and if the dress
is busy, remember to keep your accessories understated.
